Kia ora parents, caregivers and friends of the school,
I am back at school, thank goodness, although not very mobile. The staff and children are giving me great support and I even have two children see that I have my lunch every day. The cast comes off early next term just before Terry and I fly off to a Principals’ conference in Canada. (All going well!)
The context of study this term was ‘Quest’ and over the last few weeks we have seen the culminating tasks that are done at the end of the unit of learning. The community and school enjoyed an amazing junior school show two weeks ago and on Tuesday rooms 15 and 18 had their election rally. I am always very impressed with the knowledge and performance skills that our young children produce and the convincing arguments and displays made voting very difficult. The rest of the middle school planned an outing, including emailing the appropriate persons, while room 11 had a quest that culminated in a role play and special party day for the character Winkle Poo. The diversity and creativity of the learning tasks involved resulted in an exciting term’s learning for all.
The senior school had their ‘Great Race’ yesterday and it was a very enjoyable experience for both children and parents. Looking at the end of term assessments, I can see that the home learning in reading and basic facts is having a very positive impact on these results. The children are very pleased with the gains they have made and are keen to share their success. We have reporting to parents and caregivers next term in week 9.
School Security
Having the gates closed is already making a difference in improving the school site. Vandalism is down which is making Mondays much easier for the ground staff, no breakages and no unpleasant messes to clean up.The site is locked during the day and all visitors must come through the school office. Thank you for supporting this initiative.
