Week 11, Term 1, 2011

Kia ora parents, caregivers and friends of the school,

This is the last week of the term and tomorrow we finish for a holiday break of two weeks.  Easter and ANZAC are in the holidays this year and we start back here at school on Monday 2 May.

Over term one children were assessed using a range of tools, reading running records, writing samples, numeracy tests including basic facts.

This is all part of ‘teaching as inquiry’, teachers actions promoting student learning:  Teacher Speak:  Effective Pedagogy.

Teachers use the data to establish what the children know and what they need to learn next.

At the parent/teacher/student interviews you were given feed back about the learning and some suggestions on how you can help your child at home.

At Western Heights the support at home does improve our learning outcomes, especially the home reading and basic facts learning.  We are very proud of the results when the data is analysed.

School Enrolment ZonePresently the Board of Trustees are reviewing the school enrolment zone.  Information of this will be on the website and you will be informed on the completion of the review.  If you have any concerns or questions please contact the Principal.

Visitor Protocol

If visiting the school between 9a.m. and 2.30p.m., any parent, caregiver or visitor must go to the school office and report in.

Parent/teacher/student Interviews

It was pleasing to see so many parents and caregivers at school for the interviews last week.  The partnership between the home and school is so important for enhancing teaching and learning.

If you were unable to attend, please contact the office or Pat Hutton to make a time to come.

Drink Can Tabs

Room 9 is collecting tabs from cans for a charity that supports families who have children who need Dialysis.  Do send any can tabs you collect to room 9.

Lost Property

If you are passing by and think your child has left any clothing at school over the term do check out the box on the hall deck.

Term one finishes on Friday 15 April at 3p.m.

We return Monday 2 May.

There will be NO sausage sizzle tomorrow.
