Senior Syndicate Parent Notice Term 3, 2011

16th August, 2011

Dear Parents/Caregivers

Welcome back to everyone, I hope you all managed to take some time for yourselves.

We have a very busy term ahead. Our whole computer system has been upgraded so we have not been able to use our network for the past week.

Topic

Our Inquiry topic this term is Cause and Effect and children will be completing inquiry learning in this area.

EXCITING NEWS

The senior school won the ‘Auckland Blues chant competition' on you tube with a chant written by Solomon Granger, Stephen Hallett and Ben Pram and performed by the senior children. On Thursday 25th August all the senior children will be having a special breakfast at school with some Blues players. Children need to be at school between 7.30 and 8am on Thursday morning. Following the breakfast   ‘What Now' will be refilming the children performing the chant.

Special mention

In the last week of last term, we had an extremely successful Great Race. The children had a challenging and exciting time and all completed the race successfully.

A special thank you to the parents who helped make this day so successful.

Reminders As the wet weather is upon us could you please ensure your child has a change of clothing in their school bag.

Home Learning: All children should be completing their projects from the Home Learning brochure. All children should also be reading at least 20 minutes daily.  We have noticed a huge improvement in the basic facts levels of most of the children which has reflected in good gains in their classroom maths programmes.

As most children are proficient in basic facts to further extend and help revise their maths they are now able to go to www.tki.org.nz/epic2  and can choose level 2 or 3 maths activities.  This is a great free interactive revision site for them.  Because we are signed up as a school all children are able to access this great resource.  The Username is western15 and the password is heights67

Other dates to note:

Chocolate sales for camp fundraising. To help reduce the cost of camp senior children can sell chocolate. We are approaching the selling of chocolate differently this year. (separate notice with further details)

For each box sold your child will be credited with $20 from their camp costs.
