Kia ora parents, caregivers and friends of the school,
It was with extreme sadness that we all attended Mr Tony Scott’s funeral last week. Thank you to those parents who have emailed or sent cards expressing your condolences. We had emails from ex-teachers, Mr Vulu in Tuvalu and Mrs Du Plooy in Perth, along with flowers from a number of local schools. The generous koha from the school community was appreciated by the family. It was lovely to see a huge group of ex pupils at the special assembly on Friday, when a commemorative tree was planted. It is so nice to see many children over the last few days have placed flowers beside it. Friday was Mrs Greig’s last day as a fulltime teacher. She is now on maternity leave for a year. Mrs Morrison-Raju (Mrs MR) is in Jane’s room until the end of the year. Mr Baker has been on paternity leave and is back today.
Car Park Safety
We are appreciating the help of our new car park parent volunteer, Mr Lakin, who is helping keep the Car park area safe for children. He is out there because of the parents complaints that have been received over the last few months.
Henderson Sports Cluster
The winter cluster sports day is enjoyed by a huge group of children but unfortunately, due to closed sports grounds, the day had to be cancelled. We are hoping to arrange some interschool sports exchanges to make up for the cancellation.
Teacher Only Day
The staff spent Monday at school having a workshop on the National Standards including the new reporting to parents’ requirements.
We have had many of the staff involved in previous professional development National Standards workshops over the last year and as we have a very rigorist and comprehensive assessment and evaluation programme already, we are looking very closely at the Ministry requirements as we don’t want to, as the saying goes, ‘throw the baby out with the bath water.’
We are planning a parent information evening early next year where we can discuss the changes we will be trialling in 2011.
Measles and Chicken Pox
Please be aware that these infectious diseases are at school just now. As we have a wee pupil recovering from cancer, it is important that the school is notified straight away if your child has signs of the above and should be kept away from school.
