Senior Syndicate Parent Notice Term 2, 2010
19th April, 2010
Dear Parents/Caregivers
I hope you all managed to have a relaxing break. We have a very busy, 11 week term ahead of us.
A teacher concern is that a large number of children are arriving at school very early in the morning. Children should not be at school before 8.30am. If you need to drop them earlier, before school care is available. Please contact the office for details.
Topic
Our inquiry topics this term are Heritage and Cultural Diversity.
We will be continuing with our ongoing commitment to re-establish plant life along the Opanuku Stream by planting with Twin Streams in Week 1.
Soccer United will be in to take class sessions with teachers and follow up with lunchtime lessons for those who wish to book in.
*All classes will be visiting Tiritiri Matangi, an island sanctuary, as part of our Heritage Inquiry study.
Notices for this trip will be sent home today. A copy will also be posted on the school website.
As part of our cultural diversity study we will be having a whole school cultural day on Friday 18th June when children will dress in costumes, perform dances plus other activities to celebrate our diverse cultures.
Knowledge-a-thon
All children will be participating in a knowledge-a-thon to raise money for a much needed basketball/ netball court. Question sheets and sponsorship forms will be brought home today.
School Council
This year we have an enthusiastic and responsible group of class councillors. They will be travelling to the Logan Campbell Centre to participate in the Young Leaders Conference on 6th May.
Other events Cross Country, Knowledge-a-thon, Basket Ball Field day, Cultural Celebration, Student Led Conferences, Fonterra Science Road Show, Basic Facts Challenge, Spelling Bee and Disco.
Student Led Conferences
Over the past few years we have been encouraging students to participate in the parent teacher conferences. This allows children the opportunity to talk about their learning with the parents and teacher. This is a very important as it encourages the student to take responsibility for their learning. Time will be available to talk privately with the teacher if you wish.
Reminders As the wet weather is upon us could you please ensure your child has a change of clothing in their school bag.
