Dear Parents/Caregivers

Welcome to our many new families and welcome to Term 2. We hope you had an enjoyable break with your child.

We have a busy 11 week term ahead with plenty of exciting learning experiences planned for the children.

Term Two Programme: Topics:

*Weeks 1-6  -Health-Keeping Ourselves Safe- in conjunction with the NZ Police. Parents will receive a booklet and children will have homework discussion and activity sheets.

*Weeks 6-11 -Social Sciences-Celebrating Cultural Diversity Children will be participating in a weekly rotation each Wednesday afternoon, all term, where they get to experience aspects of dance, food, craft and song from a variety of cultures. On Friday 18th June, we will be having a whole school assembly to celebrate cultures within the school.  Children are asked to dress in clothing that represents their culture (or a sport uniform or similar if you have no particular ideas). On this day we will also have a shared cultural lunch and children will be asked to bring along a cultural food.

Mathematics - Number knowledge and strategy. Geometry - 2D  shapes,   Measurement-Length.

Physical Education and Fitness - We will be developing ball skills as part of our daily fitness programme. We will continue to have Jump Jam two times per week. You are welcome to attend Jump Jam in the mornings and participate to your level of comfort. We appreciate it when adults attending make an effort to role model by joining in. On Friday 28th May the school will be raising funds for the Heart Children with a gold coin donation for "Heart Jam" day at 10am.

Gymnastics will be every Monday afternoon. On Tuesday 11th May we will be visiting Waitakere Gymnastics Club, details of this trip to follow.

Please ensure children are dressed appropriately for these sessions. During gymnastics it is necessary for children to remove shoes and be barefoot so stockings can be difficult for girls to manage on these days.

Knowledge-athon : All children throughout the school will be participating in the Knowledge-athon, to help raise money for court extensions. Sponsorship forms and sheets will be sent home this week. Juniors have 20 questions to answer. These will be tested verbally on Friday 21st May.
