Homework
Each Monday your child will be bringing home tasks related to syndicate activities. We ask you to encourage your child to attempt as many activities as possible according to their abilities. However, if time does not allow for this homework to be fully completed, write a note on the homework sheet and sign it. We do understand the pressures that a family can be under at times.
Remember, this homework sheet caters for a wide range of ability levels. There is an easier homework sheet for those children who need extra support.
The purpose of homework is to:
- Encourage children to take responsibility for their own learning.
- Encourage discussion with parents/guardians.
- Develop independent study habits.
Reading, Spelling and Basic facts are also an important component of your child's learning, and should be practiced daily. Basic facts need to be memorized i.e. no fingers or taking time to work out in head.
The completed work is to be handed in on Friday mornings, for classroom marking.
A high standard of work and presentation is expected, using a sharp pencil not a pen. No graffiti. A good idea would be to have a pencil case, dictionary and an atlas at home just for homework.
If you have any queries regarding homework expectations, please feel free to contact your child's teacher.

Patricia Jerkovich and the Middle School Teachers
To LEARN a Spelling Word, we do:
Look - at the first letter or blend.
Look - to see if there is a chunk you know.
Look - at the ending.
Spell - out the letters to yourself.
Cover - put your hand over the word so you can’t see it.
Write - out the word carefully while saying the letters to yourself.
Check - Take your hand off the word.
Check - each letter to see if you spelt it correctly.
If you were right, go to the next word.
If you were wrong, try again until you can spell it right.
