Term 2 Week 1 2009
Dear Parents/Caregivers
Welcome back, I am sure you had an enjoyable holiday break with your child. We have a busy term ahead with our classrooms being remodelled. In the near future, CS5 will be moving to CS1. CS6-8 will be moving into the large space which is now CS2 & 3. Hopefully, we will be moving back into our own classes sometime in Term 3.
Here are some points to note for this term:
v Oral Language: Each child is to present a short oral presentation around the theme of ‘My Personality Bag” (please see attached information).
v Maths: * Children will continue to build upon their addition and subtraction number knowledge and develop strategies when solving these problems. * They will begin to develop multiplication understandings such as skip counting. * Later in the term, the children will develop their understanding of fractions.
v Literacy: Instructional reading continues as before. Please ensure that your child returns the readers daily as we need to keep circulating them through the classes. The spelling programme continues with new words on Monday and the testing on Friday. It was really pleasing to see how the children settled into the routine of learning their words and many children were achieving great results each Friday.
v Topics: Our key focus for the term will be ‘Water’ examining how we are using our Environmental Resources. We will be learning about the water cycle and stormwater. Later in the term we will be walking to the local stream to investigate stream life. More details will follow.
v Physical Education: Now that swimming has finished, P.E. lessons continue each Monday and Wednesday. We are currently developing ball skills and over the winter terms we also practice gymnastic skills and folk dancing. Please ensure children are dressed appropriately for these sessions. During gymnastics it is necessary for children to remove shoes and be barefoot so stockings can be difficult for girls to manage on these days.
v Fitness: Jump Jam continues on Monday, Tuesday and Fridays. We are trialling an alternative programme on Wednesday and Thursdays. You are welcome to attend Jump Jam in the mornings and participate to your level of comfort. We appreciate it when adults attending make a special effort to role model by joining in.
v Homework: The homework sheets we started last term were popular with the children and we were able to see benefits in their learning due to the reinforcement at home. These will continue from next week. Thank you for your support with these.
To help the staff, please ensure all clothing and footwear is labelled.
If you have any queries, please speak to your child’s class teacher.
Kind regards
