Dear Parents/Caregivers
Welcome back to Western Heights School. We trust you had an enjoyable holiday with your family. We are looking forward to spending the year with your child and hope we can work together to provide the best start to their school life.
General Housekeeping:
*Class Routines-Your child may arrive at school from 8.30 onwards. It is very important that your child arrives before the morning bell rings (8.55a.m.) and that goodbyes are said before the bell rings. To foster independence please allow your child to hang up their own school bag and organize their own equipment for the day (i.e. book bag/library bag/drink bottle/lunch). It would be appreciated if you could wait outside at the end of the day. This allows your child to pack up and have notices handed out without distractions. Most mornings start with Jump Jam. We encourage full participation by teachers, children and parents if you choose to stay. Jump Jam is an important fitness activity.
*Absences- In the interests of your child’s safety and teachers peace of mind, it is essential that you notify the school if your child is going to be absent. Please phone the school office before 9.00 a,m, (ph 8361213). Teachers record absences on a green form each morning, which is sent to the office. In this way we can cross check the calls to verify a child’s absence. If an absence has not been notified, a phone call home will be made to check. Please update your phone numbers, at the office, if they change.
*Parent Help-if you wish to offer assistance as a parent helper, please see the class teacher. Any help is greatly appreciated. Putting away readers, sharpening pencils, tidying shelves, cutting paper, hearing children read, supporting writing, reinforcing number knowledge are some of the things that can assist the running of the classroom.
*Lunches-please provide your child with ‘brain’ food (sandwiches, fruit) and plenty of water in a labelled drink bottle. NO fizzy drink, and NO lollies are allowed. We stress the importance of a balanced healthy lunch box as a key way of developing concentration and positive learning during the school day. Lunch orders can be made in CS14. Please watch the newsletter for details.
*Open Door Policy- at Western Heights School we have an Open Door Policy, however please make an appointment to discuss important issues. Mornings are especially busy preparing for the day ahead.
*Sunhats- please ensures that your child has a labelled sunhat, preferably with a full brim, at school every day. Children without sunhats must remain under the verandahs during playtime and lunchtime to avoid the harsh ultra violet rays of the sun. It is recommended that the hat stay at school for term 1 and 4.
