Week 9, Term 4 2009

Kia ora parents, caregivers and friends of the school, The end of term is just around the corner and so this week we have had luncheons, outings and a helpers morning tea.The school could not function as well as it does without the many volunteer hours.  The Book Club parents, friends and grandparents, sausage sizzle cooks, trip helpers and all the parents who assist in classrooms and put away the reading books.  No government could afford to staff a school accounting for the hours the community do for our students.  ‘Thank you’ is a small word but the sentiment is huge. School Reports I have almost finished reading every student report and I have suggested on a number of these reports that children do some home reading over the holidays so that their reading levels do not drop.  We have fabulous free libraries in Waitakere City that can be visited in the summer break. The standard of student engagement and progress is really pleasing and I can see that children have enjoyed being here in 2009.  The school written report is accompanied by a comprehensive portfolio which gives you a very good picture of your child’s achievement.  I wish my girls had these when they were at school, as they provide a wonderful record of the students time at school. Principal SuccessYes, I was the lucky one this week having been presented with a ‘Service with Distinction Award’ in recognition of distinguished service to education and the Auckland Primary Principals Association. I am the one who gives out the principals awards so it was a huge shock to me to be receiving such a prestigious award from my peers of APPA at a lunch last Friday.  I must take this opportunity to thank my staff and BOT for supporting me in my role and you as a community who make my job so enjoyable.  The Staff, Board and I send our best wishes and seasons greetings for a safe, enjoyable festive season and happy new year.      Principal AwardsShaye McCartney Grace Green Kristiana Ah FookInoke Liutai Isabelle Cooper Jason LinOwen Manhood Hayden Saxon Cherish Maui–AsosaTreya Harrison Kasey Rees Teniah Ah LoRey Michaels Ethan Duncan Peter KreutzSean Mullany Andre Brooking Kiara BuckinghamCoie Salabe Jordan Shaw Jessie FlynnAunoa Uele Annalyse Lee Jessica HenriquesShinah Ulutui Dates to NoteFrid. 11 Dec.  Yr 6 Graduation LunchMon. 14 Dec.  Senior Helpers Day OutMon. 14 Dec.  Middle school PicnicWed. 16 Dec.  Guard of honour for Year 6 students.  School finishes at 12.30p.m. Wed. 3 Feb.  Term 1, 2010 starts Stationery SalesStationery lists will be given out on the first day of school next year.  Sales of stationery will take place from 8.30a.m. - 12.30p.m. daily, from Thursday 4 February until Friday 12 February.  There will be no afternoon sales.  There will be a security box for payments if you wish to drop off and stationery will be sent to your class.  This will help with the queues. SCHOOL FINISHES WEDNESDAY 16 DECEMBER AT 12.30P.M.Sturges Road Bridge ReplacementBetween 26 December and 18 January the Sturges Road Bridge will be demolished.  Alternative routes will have to be used.  After 18 January, a single-lane Bailey bridge will be provided until the new bridge is completed in December 2010. Auckland Regional Dental Service Our services are provided FREE to all pre-school, primary and intermediate school children.  For details of the nearest School Dental Clinic open during the holiday period please contact 0800 4 DENTAL or 0800 433-6825 The Performing Arts School of NZ Holiday Programme
