Kia ora parents, caregivers and friends of the school,
This week we celebrated the graduation of a number of our staff members. Courtney Yukich, Jodi Sparks, Diana Weaver, Nikita Brown and Kathryn Mill are now fully registered teachers having completed two years as beginning teachers here. Congratulations and best wishes for your careers.
New Staffroom
We are purchasing whiteware for the new staffroom. We have a very cost effective oven that is made in Turkey and a big fridge gained from our ‘milk points’ but we need to purchase a twin drawer stainless steel dishwasher. Can anyone lead us to a very good deal?
Student Success
We take great pride over the quality of our school councilors and each year as they go off to intermediate we follow their progress seeing if they take up other leadership roles.I am thrilled that many of these students get to represent their classes at both intermediate and high school and then go on to become prefects.A number of past pupils do keep in contact and even call in to see us. This week we had one come in to show us his shiny new car. A girl also visited on Friday who is now at University in Queensland.
Sports Stars
Solomon Granger: Over the weekend Solomon competed at West Wave for his swimming club, Waterhole. He qualified for National Championships in breaststroke and was very happy with his time of 48.28sec. He obtained two silver medals on the day.
Lucy Makaera: Lucy competed in the Auckland pentathlon at Mt Smart stadium this weekend and she gained first place. She had to compete in long jump, discus and a 100 metres race. In her words she said, “It was tough and I thought I came third but I came first and I was so excited I was about to cry but I didn’t.”
Well Done Solomon and Lucy.
School Traffic
The building programme is almost at an end with the new staffroom to be completed as we finish school on 16 December.
This week we renewed the sewage drains and this made not only a huge mess but many more vehicles had to be on site.
The parent parking is at a premium and I know the chaos at the shops is awful. Do display patience and take care at all times as we have young children walking in that area.If you can come after 3p.m. to collect your children it does help relieve the initial rush. Children will be safe to stay in the school grounds for 10 to 15 minutes waiting for you.
