Western heights top

Week 7, Term 3 2009

Kia ora parents, caregivers and friends of the school,

The students enjoyed taking part in the Henderson Cluster sports day last week.  Our pupils always get very complimentary comments from other schools about their polite, positive attitude.  They were also competitive and did well.  This is the Western Heights way in action.

Building Report

Furniture is arriving and we hope to be in the new administration building next week. The very smart copper downpipes lasted only a week and are now funding someone’s personal needs.  We did warn the architects but to no avail, and as a detail they did look good.  The builders are replacing the stolen copper with something else less valuable.

Safety Outside The School Gate And At The Shops

I have been fielding some community complaints about the parking in the shopping area before and after school.  We haven’t had a café, chemist and doctor up at the shops before, so the parking seems to be at a premium at times.

Could you please not park in front of the end shops, as those spaces are needed for patients and some times emergency vehicles. Your support in this matter would be appreciated by the doctor’s patients and staff. If your children are older, do feel free to come and collect them at 3.15p.m. so the 3 o’clock rush is less intense.

Enviro Group

A wee 6 year old boy asked me where I was going on Friday and after my response of ‘a meeting’ he said he goes to meetings now as he is on the enviro team.

Last week, Dana shared the book ‘George Saves the World by Lunchtime’ by Jo Readman and Ley Honor Roberts.  This is a good book to promote reducing the use of resources such as power, petrol and paper.

The group is putting the weed mat down in the garden area next week.

Soccer Successes

The Lynn Avon 10th grade soccer team won the Premier Division 1 League on Saturday having only been promoted into the league this year.  Two of the members are from Western Heights:  Cameron Brown and Cameron Spick.

Ranui Swanson 6th Grade soccer team, the Ranui Sharks, also won their league this season and were undefeated in doing so. Daniel Kellett is part of that team.
