Week 3, Term 2, 2009

Kia ora parents, caregivers and friends of the school,

Building Update

It is so exciting to see very visible signs of the new administration area now that framing is up.  The Pod A children (5 year olds) will remain in their current class spaces and Pod B are ready to move into Pod A area as soon as we get advised. Permit applications are in at the council for the new staffroom and the Pod B modernization will start when the other rooms are completed.

Enviro Schools Update

Each class has two enviro representatives who meet with Mrs Taylor every two weeks. Two of these representatives went on a bus tour last week to look at other Enviro Schools so that they will have an idea of what we can be doing to improve the environment here. Newsletters have come home to give you and your family some challenges and we also have a request for materials to help us begin our vegetable garden.

School Council

The school council attended the Young Leaders Day at Telstra stadium last Thursday.  They enjoyed  and were inspired  by motivational presentations from Rob Fyfe (Air NZ), Nick Tuitasi (former police constable), Rob Harley (TV documentary maker) and Matt Gibbs and Dayna Vawdrey from TVNZ Studio 2.  It is always an amazing day and we share the venue with thousands of other Young Leaders from schools all over Auckland, Northland and the Waikato.

Well Siblings in West Auckland

Miss Belinda Blick, a teacher in our local area, has noticed that there are many students in West Auckland who have siblings with some form of disability, chronic illness or special needs. These well siblings require a special kind of support network of their own, although at the present time there are very few programmes available in New Zealand.  If you think your well child/children would benefit from a support programme specifically for them, please email Belinda at sibtime@yahoo.co.nz or phone 817 5143 to register your interest.
