Refuse Station Trips

Term 2

This term, all classes have had the opportunity to visit the Waitakere City Refuse Station to learn about where our rubbish goes after it gets collected from our kerbside. 

We all learnt some amazing facts!

??? Did you know... ???

• That you can now recycle any plastic with the numbers 1-7 in the recycle circle on the bottom of the product.
• 4 x 4 tonne trucks leave the refuse station everyday and head north to the Helensvale Landfill, where rubbish get tipped into a massive whole in the ground that used to be a limestone quarry.
• These 4 trucks each make 4 trips a day to Helenvale with our rubbish!
• The Helensvale Landfill began being filled about 10 years ago and they estimate it will continue to be filled for another 15 years!   Thats alot of rubbish going into our Earth!!!!
