Week 7, Term 3

Kia ora Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school,

It is upsetting to think parents’ cars in the front carpark can be broken into during the day.  Two cars have had windows smashed and bags removed in the last two weeks.  Do not leave valuables in your cars when you are in the school.

Studio 5 Competition

Caitlin Davidson has won a major prize with Studio 2 and she will be off with her family to Disneyland later in the year. Well done Caitlin.  Caitlin has won other art awards and is very talented.  Remember her Waitemata Health poster and her Christmas stamp.  Watch this space!!!

Saturday Netball

The netball season is over and the teams and their coaches and supporters showed such resilience having to be involved each very wet cold windy Saturday. The Panther team finished the top team in the top grade after a very exciting match with Glenora on Saturday.  Glenora had not lost a match all season and our team won 18-12.

This team are an elite squad who play in other tournaments and train from early in the year.  Their coaches do devote a great deal of time to them and the result is reflective of the effort. Two W.H. teams won the sportsmanship trophies for the season.

Thank you to all the coaches and managers of the teams and a huge thank you to Adele Nummy who is the voluntary co-ordinator of all the Western Heights teams.

Safety New Zealand Week:  1 - 7 September

The new campaign is called Safety begins  in the home.  For more details go to www.homesafety.co.nz

Our granddaughter, Charlotte, is now walking and we have had to modify quite a few things in our house over the last month so that she is ‘safe’.

School Fees

It was pleasing to see, when checking the budget this week that a huge number of parents have paid their school fees this year.  Although it is legally a ‘donation’, schools in New Zealand do depend on parents’ contributions to support additional resources for school programmes. We are lucky that we do have some international students as many schools don’t have that opportunity.

Lost Property

We now have a wooden box on the hall deck that has pupils’ lost property.  We gather a huge amount of good quality clothing during each term that no one seems to own.  Please feel free to check this box during the day.  Childrens’ clothing and shoes at Western Heights very rarely gets taken, it just gets ‘lost’.At the end of the term, the contents of the bin gets given to the Faith Factory.

Environmental Message For The Week

Use a lunchbox with compartments to minimise the use of lunch wrap.

Scholastic Book Orders

These went out last week.  Orders are due in by Friday 12 September.  Please make cheques payable to Scholastic N.Z.
