Week 5, Term 4

Kia ora Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school,

Senior School Camp

The senior school went to Stedfast Park, Piha last week for camp.  I was able, along with other staff members, to visit several times during the week and was very impressed by the children who were all enjoying the experience.

The camp is quite a distance from the beach and the area offers wonderful opportunities for outdoor experiences.

The teachers work so hard to prepare an action packed, enriching programme and then give up their comforts to stay out at the camp with a large number of very supportive parents.  Just keeping track of ones’ shoes and socks is a challenge for a number of students, so it is more than conservation and survival that the group learn.

French Lunch

A group of year six children celebrated their success and commitment to their French class by going out to Bouchon for a French style lunch.  They learn to order their meal in French and are always excited by the experience.

These children are selected at the beginning of the year by the results they gain in their listening progress and achievements tests. (P.A.T’s).  It was a typical long French lunch.

Student Success

Congratulations to Jordan Shaw who is representing New Zealand in athletics.

Sausage Sizzle

We are desperate for helpers for our sausage sizzle.  Special thanks to Diane Sawyer and Juliana Murphy who organise the sausage sizzle and the parents who cook the sausages.  At present we only have eight volunteers and the sausage sizzle may not continue next year if we can’t get at least twenty people.  This would mean that volunteers would only have to do it once a term instead of some being rostered on two or three times.  Helpers are only required for approximately two hours on a Friday from 11a.m.  Please call the office if you can help.

Scholastic Book Club

Scholastic Book orders will go out shortly and close on Friday 28 November.  Please make cheques payable to Scholastic New Zealand Limited.

 Items Wanted

During our study of dog safety, the middle school have decided that it would be wonderful for the children to do something special for the animals at the S.P.C.A for Christmas.  The S.P.C.A. are in dire need of the following items:* Towels * Blankets * Newspapers* Jumpers * Cuddly toys * Cat/Dog food If you have any of these items at home, we would love them.  Please let your child bring them to school to go into our gift box (in CS10).  I’m sure your child won’t mind doing a few extra chores around the house to earn these items. Also, in two weeks time we will be holding an ice-block day.  The children will be asked to bring $2 and will receive an ice-block.  All of the money raised will go towards a shelter for the stock animals at the S.P.C.A.
