Week 3, Term 3

Kia ora Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school,

I spent three days in Wellington last week at a conference for all schools who are on the Extending High Standards contracts all over New Zealand. Our cluster of five schools, St. Dominics, Henderson North, St Pauls and Holy Cross was a small group compared with some clusters up north and in the deep south. The Minister of Education Chris Carter spoke to us and was very complimentary of the work we are all doing. Mr Carter came into school this Monday unannounced for an informal short visit.  He was very impressed with our school council and looks forward to seeing them in Wellington at the end of November when they visit parliament as part of their itinerary.

Children at Corbans Art Centre

Classes are still going to Corbans Art Centre as part of their Reduce, Re-use, Recycle, Refuse and Rethink study.  The programmes are producing some innovative results.  Thank you to the helpers going down with the classes.

Zoo Doo

The Junior school are all attending the Zoo Doo programme at the Auckland Zoo as part of sustainability and learning about the ‘Green Foot Print’.  The school wide focus of ‘Our Green Foot Print’ has enabled us to apply and be accepted for the ARC ‘Enviro Schools’ programme.  We are very lucky that we have several class sets of rain coats to give out if needed.

Board of Trustees Meeting

The board met this week where they viewed and discussed the updated concept plans for the new school business area, staffroom and modernization.  Colin Pauling from Waitakere Architects was a guest at the meeting.  The plans have taken so long and with the rising costs we have had to make considerable changes. We could do with a ‘benefactor’ like Universities seem to have.  The school council came to the meeting to talk to the BOT about their current projects including their trip to Wellington.  I am always so proud of our students when I see the confidence they show when asked to present or share.
