Western heights top

#7 - Week 1, Term 2, 2008

Kia ora Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school,

Welcome to the new families to Western Heights this term. The newsletter is published fortnightly, on a Thursday, and is also available on our website www.westernheights.school.nz

We welcome Nadia Hutton who is back teaching in CS9 in place of Mrs Du Plooy. Mrs Alison Moyle will be in the room every Friday. We welcome back Mrs Jerkovich who has been on a fairly intrepid journey through Argentina for several weeks meeting family, many of them for the first time.

Cell Phones At School

We do not encourage cell phones at school but do realise that some children need them for contacting parents and caregivers at the end of the day.  If your child does have a cell phone at school it can be given to the office or teacher at the beginning of the day for safe keeping.  Phones should not be used during the school day.

Copy of the SunSmart Schools Newsletter, Term Two 2008

Sunhats off over winter.

For term 2 and 3 schools can temporarily ease off on sun Protection and students can stop wearing their sun hats and sunscreen without worrying about the risks of skin cancer.  It is unnecessary to protect children from the sun from now to September because the levels of ultraviolet radiation are generally too low to cause overexposure and sunburn.  Children should not wear sunhats, sunscreen or be encouraged to play in the shade in Terms 2 and 3.  It is beneficial for children to actively enjoy the winter sun as much as possible.
