Kia ora Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school,
We have had Audit and Review here at school all week as part of the Ministry three year review cycle. The teachers and students gave them a Western Heights welcome on Monday that was appreciated. The team were very complimentary about the confidence our students showed, they thought they were fantastic
.We have an assembly on Friday at 1.30p.m. to end the term and farewell Stella Du Plooy. She has been on the staff here for about 12 years and has loved her time in New Zealand, especially being part of the Western Heights School Community. We will miss her and send her to Australia with our blessings.
School Holidays
The children are on holiday for the next two weeks and it is nice to take the time as a family to explore the fantastic resources we have in Auckland.I went to the Auckland Museum last Sunday for the first time in a while and I was really impressed with the quality and variety of exhibits. The children’s areas such as Weird and Wonderful are pretty marvellous. I thought the $5 per adult, children free entry to the museum very good value. There are special events taking place for the school holidays which you can check out on the Auckland Museum website. www.aucklandmuseum.com
There is an amazing visual presentation on the outside wall of the Museum for ANZAC commemorations. This can be watched after dark April 22, 23 and 24 from 7p.m. to 10p.m. Check out the Waitakere City Libraries holiday events and also MOTAT.
Carpark Chaos
A wet week has meant that most children are travelling to school by car, so the before and after school traffic has been extremely chaotic. Do take extra care when delivering and collecting children during wet days. If you can come a little later the children could wait in the main entrance of the office foyer.
What’s That Smell?
At the beginning of the term for three weeks a very strong odour hung over the school grounds making the classroom and playground environment quite unpleasant. I did ring the ARC and I drove around the industrial area in Bruce McLaren Road several times but could not find the source. The windless dry hot weather was probably why we could smell the odour. We can no longer detect any smells. A community member is still experiencing ‘dirty air ‘and is keen to hear from any other concerned residents. Phone/text Sandy on 021 107 2335 or email: s.sbambury@slingshot.co.nz.
