Western heights top

Week 7, Term 3 2007

Kia ora Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school,

We were thrilled with the large turn out of parents and caregivers at the Keeping Ourselves information evening.  All the staff and Board of Trustees also attended to show their support and commitment to the programme. It does take a village to raise a child and with the partnership shown between the school and community, the outcomes for our pupils are positive.

Several staff members and I went to netball on Saturday to see some winning Western Heights teams.  All the work behind these victorious moments is the result of some dedicated ‘volunteers’.  The work they do is important and appreciated.  Thank you must also go to Adele Nummy who is the coordinator for the Western Heights netball club.  The netball prizegiving for all the Western Heights teams was on Wednesday night.

Pat Hutton returned from her sabbatical this week and although she had a pretty amazing time in Europe, she was very happy to be home and back to school.  Pat will be a main contact person next week while I am away in Korea.

New Zealand-a-thon

This enjoyable activity is our main fundraiser for the year and with our huge building project being planned for 2008 the extra money will make the difference. The junior playground area will have to be moved and updated, so the money we get is going to be put to excellent use.  Could you please continue to help your children to gain more sponsors.

Homestay families needed for Western Heights Korean group.

Thank you for your interest in hosting a Korean student in October.  We could still do with several extra homes.  Captain Cook Tours is happy to have one student per home.  The tour company arranges a weekend away for the students during their stay and also has activities planned for several Sundays.  Host families are paid $200 per student per week.  Please consider this opportunity.  Call in to the school office or ring Joy and leave details if you would like to host a student.  Phone 8361213 or email joyw@westernheights.school.nz.  The itinerary is in the school office for you to look at.
