Kia ora Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school
Shop for your school: Wow! We came third in this promotion which is the highest place we have ever gained. Jade Ward was runner up in the Trash to Fashion at the Mall and I hear one grandmother booked an around the world holiday which gained quite a few points. Even Mrs MR went to the Mall dressed in green one afternoon and added 100 points to our tally. The prize list was valued at $4,985 and we received 1* Mac Book 13 + sundry additions“ and 1 Canon digital video camera, 7 mini soccer balls, 3 soccer balls, 7 rugby balls, 4 caps, 7 drink bottles, 5 netballs, $900 of Scholastic Gift vouchers. Thank you to the sponsors, Westfield, Scholastic, Apple, Adidas and Canon.
Sickness of staff and pupils has been more prevalent this week and so we have had some substitute teachers in classrooms. We are lucky to have a small group of good relievers to call upon at this stage. Joanna Heap is yet to go overseas and Dianne Timmermans is available on a daily basis. Thank you to those parents who ring or email the school when their children are away or are late. All that information is kept on file for Ministry attendance auditors.
Keeping Ourselves Safe
Constable Stace took the teachers for a workshop on this unit of study last week. A parent meeting is to be arranged and letters will go home later in the term. There will be opportunities to attend class sessions.
School Fees
This ‘voluntary donation’, which is a huge help in providing resources for teaching and learning programmes, continue to come into the office. We can arrange these payments to be accepted on a term by term basis. It is the best year ever for parents paying as I think you all realise, and it is public knowledge, that schools are under funded. This is backed up by recent government research.
Board of Trustees
The BOT enjoyed a well planned lively presentation by the student council at the meeting last week. The school council put forward two project proposals that are going to contribute to improving the school environment. The new building project was discussed and we hope to fence off a large portion of the school so that ‘environmental improvements’ are not going to be destroyed.
It is so disheartening to come back to school on a Monday to find damage. Mrs Andrews was called out in the middle of Saturday night because of a ‘smash and grab’. Thank you to the neighbours who called the police at 2am.
Fund Raising
New Zealand-a-thon is being well publicised and I know you will support this 100%. Each class is setting up learning centres and more information will be on the website.
Filming
The staff car park will be disrupted next Monday as a film crew park some of their trucks here. The filming is on Border Road and they want their crew close by. We will be given some monetary compensation for this disruption.
