Kia ora Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the schoolWe are a very popular school in the Henderson area and our March 1st return to the Ministry reflects that, showing the highest pupil number ever at this time of the year. The effort we take in making sure we are professionally advanced means not only money, but considerable time spent on our teachers professional development programme. Many of the staff have been away for several days during this term at a variety of workshops. We began the year with a Teacher Only Day at the end of the holidays and will have another one during the Easter break. Additional staff members are in rooms when teachers take their ‘release’ which is two days a term in accordance with the teachers collective agreement. Teachers assess children, attend meetings and prepare teaching programmes in this time. Our application to the Ministry for Extending High Standards funding is also looking very promising and parents can be assured that all the above is to enhance teaching and learning at our school for your children.
Current Topic: Parenting with confidence This is a very current topic especially with the new ‘no smacking’ laws being suggested, discussed and passed by parliamentarians. Learning Network, a professional development provider in Lincoln Road, often have seminars for parents and caregivers. Tonight, Dr George Betts and Carolyn Coil are looking at Ten Parent Questions and Encouraging Life Long Learning at Home. Telecom School ConnectionTo help us earn School Connection points we would very much like it if you could sign up and become a sponsor for Western Heights Primary School, Henderson, by phoning 0800 724665 or go to www.schoolconnection.co.nz. The points enable us to purchase a range of products ranging from Digital Cameras, CD Players to Data Projectors. It costs you nothing, Telecom are the only ones who it does affect in monetary terms. We currently have 265 sponsors and for a school of nearly 600 we could have a lot more. Get your friends and relations to join as well. They must remind Telecom that we are the Henderson Western Heights’ not Rotorua.
