Kia ora Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school,
The good weather ensured successful camps for the senior school last week. The feedback has been very positive and the children have returned to school focussed and revitalised for the last half of the term. We are lucky to be so close to such a well equipped Education camp set in a bush area. The large group of parents who were able to help at the camps was fantastic and helped to contribute to the success of the week. Thank you to those who came and those who were at Arataki for Thursday and Friday. Class Spaces 11 and 12 are at Arataki this week.
Fundraising
Raising funds to ensure that the quality and quantity of resources can be maintained, is a challenge for all schools. The calendar money will go towards library requirements. We are very proud of our library which is a well used area of the school. We do need some additional shelves for the increasing number of books we have purchased this year.
Calendars
The calendar art has been submitted for preparation. These calendars are a great gift for family members and the quality of the art is amazing with many families now having a collection of the art calendars from the last few years. Last orders are due tomorrow. Stella Du Plooy is the co-ordinator of this fundraiser.
Sun Smart Week: 11-17 November
From Labour weekend to Easter, all children should be wearing sun hats at school. It is important that children have a hat either at school all the time or bring one daily. This is in accordance with our school sun smart policy. The teachers do encourage the wearing of hats when children are outside and when the sun does appear we have a ‘No Hats No Play’ system and hatless children can stay under the porch areas and trees. The new building development has added shading on the plan.
Cyber-safety
It is good to hear from families that computers are in high visibility areas of the houses in many cases, as the whole issue of cyber-safety and safe use on the net is a huge issue. The Education Minister is encouraging families to go to www.hectorsworld.com to learn more.At school we are on School Zone and can control the areas on the web children and staff can visit.
News From the Waitakere Tag Out Trust
Lately there has been an intense community outcry against tagging (graffiti vandalism).Until there are stronger, more meaningful laws, deterrents and punishments for this and other acts of vandalism, the ugliness and disrespect for property will continue unabated. However, taggers can be driven away if the tag/graffiti is removed as soon as it appears. Simply by calling 839 0400 for those living/working in Waitakere and northwards to Helensville, or 379 2020 for Auckland to report where there is graffiti.
www.coverbaby.co.nz
I have had a request from one of our future students that we all go onto this site and vote for her as she does not have many relatives in New Zealand. Look for the photo of Annabel Woolford and vote as she is very cute. I will let you know if she wins.
