Kia ora Parents, Caregivers and Friends of the school,
Welcome to the new families to the school and also welcome to Anne Meredith who is job sharing with Dianne Timmermans in class space 8 this term, as Miss Hart is away on leave.
Welcome back to Andrew Noakes after his leave last term and we have Diana Weaver in Mrs Moyle’s class, class space 11. Diana was a teacher release staff member last term.
Term four is a very busy time here at school as teachers are collating data, testing, preparing reports and completing the portfolios. The middle school have overnight camps at Arataki and I really enjoy calling in to see the excited, fully engaged children enjoying one of our excellent education centres in Waitakere City. The Thursday evening bush walk with the rangers is something very special and it is pretty amazing to be able to walk through the Arataki area under stars. It is always hard to believe that a huge city is so close to this verdant region of tranquillity.
The senior school are fundraising for their EOCT programmes at Carey Park and MERC. Under the new Education Ministry Health guidelines we can have a yearly fund raiser of the chocolate variety. The senior school teachers have sent out information about their programme and it is important for you to send the information required back to your class teacher. All this documentation is a Ministry compliance issue.
We have our official welcome to our Korean students at 9a.m. tomorrow morning. Their stay here was delayed as they managed to take a direct flight to NZ a day later than planned. Having done that trip last month I say … Good idea…
School Absences
At the end of each term I have to look at all attendance registers and note the number of children who are away an unusual numbers of times during the term without us being notified. The attendance register is marked twice a day and is one of the few ‘official’ documents here at school and we are audited by the Education Ministry. We now have an Enrol system which also tracks the children around the country that is directly monitored by the Education Ministry. The office have appreciated those families who have reported their children’s absence by either phone message or email. Phone 8361213. admin@westernheights.school.nz
Waitakere Licensing TrustLast night Trudi Brocas, the board chair, and I attended the Waitakere Trust function for recent grants. $2.3 million was given to community groups during the night and we received $37,794. We will be able to enhance the senior playground and purchase some inter-active white boards. We are so advantaged having a Trust in Waitakere City. This was one of six evenings held during each year and that equates to a huge amount of money being injected into our community activities.
Board of Trustees
Next meeting is Wednesday 17 October at 7.30p.m. Meetings are held in the school staffroom.
