Teacher: Dianne Timmermans
Year: Five & Six

Hi, and welcome to Class Space16’s web page!

Time sure goes fast when you're having fun or working hard as is both the cases of CS16.
You should see our classroom wall displays - we are so proud of all our hard work, presentation and achievements.

Our Unit on Antarctica was very intensive and absolutely cool, brrrrr. We explored all aspects of Antarctica, from EARLY EXPLORATION, to ANIMAL LIFE, to SCIENTIFIC RESEARCH, to ANTARCTICA TREATY, to GLOBAL WARMING/GREENHOUSE EFFECT. As this was a themantic unit our Reading units covered Fictional and Non-Fiction Journal Stories on Antartica also with a focus on Comprehension. Writing took the form of Research, Haiku, Cinquain Poetry, Fictional Descriptive Stories and a lot more. Our artwork comprised of Antarctica Torn Paper Collage, Scraffito, and Wall collage.

Another big focus for us was Aotearoa - Maori Past and Present, Maori Myths and Legends, Learning Poi, Stick and Waiata. Once again our Reading focus was Myths and Legends where we made concertina books in pairs. This was retelling in a summarised form with illustrations. Our artwork here included Native Birds - crayon/pastel overlay based on
the book Maori Animal Myths by Warren Pohatu.

Class Space 16 also adapted and wrote their oun class book. Working in pairs we expanded an original story using descriptive language, especially adjectives, adverbs and metaphors and simlies which we had been learning about. The result - a fine piece of writing for all to read.

To top all this off the theme 'REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE' permeated through it all. Mrs Timmermans worked with CS 16,20,21 making paper and we retotated to learn about Aluminium, and made a Tyreanium - worm farm focus. Here we were introduced to Flow Charts which we have done for our Portfolio work.

WOW WHAT A NEAT THREE TERMS WE HAVE HAD!!!
